Refraction through Lenses

one of the most import uses of refraction uses of refraction involves lenses. by controlling how much and in what direction, light bends we are able to see heat objects and send information. A lens is simply a refracting object with a curved surface. the two main types of lenses are convex and concave.

Aim: to investigate how different types of lenses refract light.

Refraction

Aim: to investigate how light is affected by changing the substance it is traveling through.
Equipment: ray, box power source glass or perspex block single-slit ray slide.
Method: collect the equipment from your teacher, and set them up to produce a single beam of light.

reflection WK2 T2

T2  WK2:

Aim: to investigate the reflection of light rays in concave and convex mirrors

method: set up your ray box triple-slit ray slide and power supply.

place the mirrors on your book as indicated below. place the ray box at the top of the page and shine the 3 rays of light at the mirror.

ensure that the middle ray of light is hitting the mirror at 90° angle.

carefully trace the direction of the three incident rays and the three reflected rays.

Result: with the concave mirror, the light reflected in the other direction, and with the convex mirror the light reflected outwards.
